I absolutely loved Melvin- he never complained nor never said anything bad about anyone. He had great love for his daughters. I loved taking him to ride the Va Dare at Smith Mtn. Lake- although his last trip tired him out he loved sharing the story about his building the bridge. Every time I would ask him if he needed anything he would say No and thank you for asking. He was very humble. Im going to miss his sweetness and me yelling No brake Melvin, but I will say it In honor of him. To his family- never doubt the love we felt for him, he touched so many lives. I will truly miss him.

Dad wasnt a father in law he was a dad to me. He was a very hard working man and honest, He was a Crane operator that worked on about every bridge on the I 81 and 581 and all surrounded areas. Day was respected by the inspectors.Dad was always a safety first man, he would look at me and say boy did you grease that you better put safety glasses on,I told you that was going to happen. That boy is hard headed,but he will learn. Well Dad most all has finally sunk in. Your Pride and Joy always was your Girls, I will try to handle things, I LOVE YOU, Tell Mom hi for me but not the times you would have to set me straight. I will mess you so MUCH, I love you!!!!!!!

Melvin was a father to me, not a father in law. Paw has taught me so much in 30 years always safety first. Boy did you grease that tractor. You better get that snow off those gutters and tell those kids to watch out for snakes and the list goes on and on. He was truly awesome and very honest. He had respect from the bridge and highway inspecters. He built the Halsford bridge and most on 81 and 581 and surrounded areas. Dad I will miss you so much and will stop and think is this what dad wants me to do. I Love You please dont tell mommy the bad on me. I LOVE YOU!!!!!!
